Just follow your dream!

This week we started a unit on Tomie dePaola. The students were amazed to find out he wanted to draw pictures and write books at the age of 4 and he has illustrated over 200 books! We read The Art Lesson by Tomie dePaola. After children checked out books they were able to draw a picture of whatever they wanted to draw using crayons, markers or color pencils. We sent several drawings to Tomie dePaola and hope to hear back from him before we get out for summer!

What did you see on the way to school?

Do you know Dr. Seuss' real name?
We do. Dr. Seuss wrote 44 books, we learned that too. This week we learned some facts about Dr. Seuss and read And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street. We have had a lot of fun reading Dr. Seuss books and learning about him.

Not love books?!?!

I absolutely love this book, the little girl is by far one of my most favorite characters! Miss Brooks Loves Books (and I don't)  by Barbara Bottner is a most read for every librarian, teacher, and parent! I loved this book the first time I read it because I can relate to Miss Brooks. But the more I read it the more I fell in love with little girl who does not love books (that is who I am dressed as in the above picture). Her personality just shines in this book and you can't help but be her! All of my kindergarten children loved this book and the 1st grade class I read too for Read Across America. I will be reading this book for many years!!
