Friends, gingerbread friends!

After reading Gingerbread Baby we wondered if the gingerbread baby stayed with Mattie, ran away or if Mattie ate the gingerbread baby. During the Storytelling Festival we read Gingerbread Friends by Jan Brett and found out what happened with Mattie and the gingerbread baby!

Catch me if you can!!!!

This week we read Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett in the gingerbread house. What fun, we had a cozy fire and Christmas tree complete with candy garland. The big question is what happened to the gingerbread baby, did he live with Mattie forever, did Mattie make him friends or did Mattie eat him? Next week we will find out so stay tuned!

Emma, Tatum, Daphne and Spike...OH NO!

We read books by David M. Sargent, Jr. all week. It is hard to pick a favorite but we really like Emma, only she could sleep through a race! It was a special treat on Friday to get to meet David Sargent, his girls and Spike. Having an author visit is always great and getting him to sign a book is just an added bonus. I don't know who had more fun, the kids, the teachers or the dogs!

Ms Creeper

Miss Smith and the Haunted Library by Michael Garland is always fun to read! The librarian of the 'haunted library' is named Virginia Creeper. Ms Creeper is a little old lady with blue hair, lips and fingernails.  Wish I could say the children were shocked to see their librarian with blue hair.

Fiction or Non-Fiction....

I love this time of year to teach the children about fiction and non-fiction books.  I read Bats at the Ballgame  by Brian Lies, it is a fun book to discuss 'make believe' (fiction) books. Then I read a non-fiction bat book and we discuss the difference between fiction, books we read for fun, and non-fiction, books we read to learn more about something.

Oh no, the Laminator!!!

Had a great time today at the Book Harvest in Pell City, thanks to David Burrows! I was able to meet Mike Thaler, author of the Black Lagoon books! He had a wonderful presentation and I was very fortunate to hear my librarian friends present as well. Was great to visit with librarians from across the state and Georgia! A great group to be associated with, proud to be a librarian!

Pajama day is the best!

This week we read Llama Llama Red Pajama  by Anna Dewdeny, and of course I had to wear red pajamas all week! Thursday was Jumpstart Reading/Read for the Record so everyone on in school wore pajamas and we had a real baby llama come visit our school! Our music teacher sang the book to all the students, I read the book all week and then on Thursday our Reading Coach read it and did an activity with all the students, so every child heard the story three times! We were singing 'llama, llama red pajama' all week long!! What a great book for Jumpstart Reading, we had a lot of fun!!!

Michael Recycle

Well Michael Recycle is visiting the library this week to talk about recycling and saving our Earth. Our school recycles so we are trying to encourage the students to recycle at home. Also we discussing about taking care of our school and keep the litter picked up here and every where. I read Michael Recycle  by Ellie Bethel and our enrichment teacher read Michael Recycle Meets Litterbug Doug by Ellie Bethel. Great books to share for early elementary and elementary students.

Miss Smith!

The students thought it was cool the bats were in the library! Some even said the bats were sleeping because it was day! This week I read "Miss Smith's Incredible Storybook" by Michael Garland. Love this book!! It is a great book to introduce and explain storybook characters. Next week a character will be visiting our library so stay tuned!

Week Three is Complete

Well, the bats will soon be visiting my library! This week we read Bats at the Library by Brian Lies, love this book! So next week we will have bats all over the library! The children got to check out their first library book this week. We review how to take care of their library book when they are at home. It is always an exciting time for them! But a wreck of the library, LOL! I had one student empty three sections of my free standing bookcase and 'shelf' the books! I have just finished finding all the 'missing' books! I have never had a child do that before!
It was fun to listen to the girls in the Reading Castle playing librarian, and going over book care rules. I truly love my job, no matter how tired I get and even frustrated at times, a child will say something or do something or just a look to make me smile an realize why I do what I do! Being a kindergarten librarian is the best job ever!!!
