Cyber Bulling, Internet Safety & Digital Citizenship

We learned to to never give out personal information when we play on the computer. Always have a grown help you get on computer games. When in doubt just 'X' out!

No bullies allowed! This week we read llama llama and the bully goat by Anna Dewdney. We learned that being a bully is not a good choice. We want to make good choices and pledge to play nice with others every day!

The firefighters put on their turnouts, mask, helmets and oxygen tanks so the students could see and hear how firefighters sound when they fight fires. Please talk about fire safety at home and check your smoke detector.

Let's go GREEN! We read Michael Recycle by Ellie Bethel and decided we all need to do our part and recycle. We have recycled art in our library, Recycle Can Man. Please let your child tell you what he/she learned about recycling.
We are pledging to be green!

We kicked off our recycle unit this week! Did you know Albertville has a recycle center, go pick up your 'beautiful blue bag' and start recycling today. It is easy and you will be amazed at how much you can recycle.

Whew what a week! We ha a super star visitor in the library for our Book Fair and Grand Open House. Curious George stopped by to read a few books and get in a little mischief!
In our library classes Mr. Wiggle taught us about fiction and non-fiction books. And Franklin the Turtle also reminded us how to take care of our library books.

The library is always fun and we are always learning new and exciting things!!!

We had a special visitor this week in the library, Llama Llama! We read the book llama llama time to share by Anna Dewdney.  Did you know that even grown ups have to share? Llama Llama and Nelly Gnu were fighting over a toy and 'broke' the toy. Mama Llama put the toy up so neither one could play with it until they could share. Ms Millwood thinks that is a great idea and is going to do the same thing in the library with the cool library toys and games. Sharing can be hard at times but it is more fun to share than to do without.

Not love books?! This week we read one of my favorite books Miss Brooks Loves Books (and I don't) by Barbara Bottner. When I explained that I was the little girl in the book, my favorite quote from a student was, "I thought you loved books, Ms Millwood". I love that I can bring these characters to life and make them so believable. This book is so much fun to read!!

Was great to have all my kindergarten kidos visit the library this week! We got to meet Marion and learn about book care and the best places to read our library book at home. We covered a few basic library rules and saw a few sick books, which made us sad. I am looking forward to next week when my kindergarten kidos will check out books! And rumor has it we will have a surprise visitor!!!

We are off again! We are visiting the beautiful country of Australia. Outback, Great Barrier Reef, rain forest...oh wow. We read Kola Lou by Mem Fox. The children's reaction to the story was priceless. What fun we had creating Kola Lou and the Australian flag.

This is one of my very favorite books to read each year and one of my very favorite characters! Miss Brooks Loves Books (and I don't) by Barbara Bottner is a must read for any librarian or teacher. The little girl in the story stole my heart, as you can see. She is so much fun to be and the possibilities with this story are endless.
